Additional Information: Original acrylic painting by Norfolk, Virginia artist Dr. William N. Reingold (1926–2002), a self-taught regional painter known for his depictions of Tidewater and Hampton Roads maritime landscapes. After a 31-year career as an obstetrician-gynecologist, Reingold devoted himself full-time to painting, capturing the working vessels, waterways, and coastal scenery of the Virginia region. The composition depicts a tugboat traveling through the local shipping channels with a large commercial cargo vessel or tanker extending across the background. The tugboat features detailed rendering of its white wheelhouse, windows, safety railings, and red structural accents, while white foam and wake surrounding the vessel convey movement across the water. Reingold’s regional realism style is characterized by crisp lines, clean forms, and carefully observed maritime details. The expansive sky, calm water, and low horizon create a peaceful coastal atmosphere while highlighting the relationship between working boats and the industrial waterways of Hampton Roads.
