Additional Description: 1986 United States American Gold Eagle bullion coin, struck with the Roman-numeral date “MCMLXXXVI.” The inaugural issue marked the first use of Roman numerals on the American Gold Eagle and contains 1/4 troy ounce of gold. The obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ celebrated Liberty design, adapted from his Double Eagle, depicting Liberty advancing with a torch and olive branch before the Capitol. The reverse depicts a male bald eagle carrying an olive branch to a nest containing a female eagle and her young.
