Additional Description: The Roosevelt Dime, first issued in 1946, was created as a tribute to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, whose leadership during the Great Depression and World War II had profoundly shaped the nation. Designed by Chief Engraver John R. Sinnock, the coin presents a dignified, naturalistic portrait of Roosevelt, his gaze forward and confident. The reverse features a torch flanked by an olive branch and an oak branch, symbolizing liberty, peace, and strength, an elegant reflection of Roosevelt’s guiding ideals.

Struck in 90 percent silver until 1964 and in copper-nickel thereafter, the series spans a pivotal era in American coinage. Early silver issues from Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco are noted for their crisp detail and soft luster, while later clad examples mark the nation’s transition to modern materials and minting technology.

The Roosevelt Dimes of 1946 to 1972 remain understated yet eloquent: small coins of daily commerce that carry the quiet authority of a statesman and the enduring symbolism of mid-century America’s optimism and resilience.
