Additional Description: Issued in 1897 under the French Third Republic, this 20 Francs gold coin bears the distinguished “Génie” or Guardian Angel design by Augustin Dupré, a neoclassical composition that first appeared during the Revolution and was later revived to honor the Republic’s enduring ideals. The obverse depicts the winged Genius inscribing the French Constitution upon a tablet, accompanied by a rooster and fasces that speak to vigilance and civic strength. A torch and laurel wreath lend further symbolism of enlightenment and virtue. On the reverse, the denomination is framed by a finely detailed wreath and the national motto Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité. Believed to be of F (Fine) grade, the coin displays moderate wear consistent with careful circulation, while preserving the elegance and balance of Dupré’s original design.
