Additional Description: The 1883 Morgan Silver Dollar from the Carson City Mint is a prized issue among collectors, notable for its relatively low mintage, strong strikes, and the enduring appeal of the historic “CC” mint mark. It stands as one of the more limited releases of the year and carries the distinctive character associated with silver dollars minted in Nevada during the height of the Comstock Lode era.

Struck under the ongoing requirements of the Bland-Allison Act, the 1883-CC was part of the federal government’s effort to monetize large amounts of domestic silver. Though many coins were produced in this period, the Carson City Mint, smaller and more isolated than its eastern and western counterparts, issued far fewer, adding to the scarcity and charm of its coins.

George T. Morgan’s design remains unchanged: Liberty appears on the obverse in a classical profile, adorned with a Phrygian cap and a crown of wheat and cotton, while the reverse displays a detailed eagle holding arrows and an olive branch. The “CC” mint mark beneath the wreath serves as a hallmark of this frontier mint’s legacy.

Composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, examples of the 1883-CC Morgan were held in Treasury vaults and later released to the public during the General Services Administration (GSA) sales of the 1970s
