Additional Description: The 1895 Silver Morgan Dollar from the New Orleans Mint is a rare and historically intriguing example within the Morgan series. George T. Morgan’s design portrays Liberty in profile, crowned with wheat and cotton to symbolize the nation’s agricultural and industrial foundations, while the reverse features the American eagle with outstretched wings, clutching arrows and an olive branch as an emblem of strength and peace.
The O mintmark beneath the wreath identifies its New Orleans origin, a mint whose late-nineteenth-century output was often limited and uneven due to fluctuating silver supplies. Composed of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper, this issue is particularly scarce, with few specimens surviving in high quality.
The 1895 New Orleans Morgan is valued for its rarity, historical context, and the fine detail preserved in well-struck examples. Each coin offers a tangible connection to the complexities of U.S. coinage policy and the artistry of late nineteenth-century minting.
