Additional Description: The 1929 Indian Head $2.50 gold coin represents one of the later issues in Bela Lyon Pratt’s distinctive quarter eagle series, renowned for its incuse design. On the obverse, a Native American chief is depicted in profile, his full headdress recessed below the surface, giving the portrait depth and a sculptural quality that remains unique in U.S. coinage. The reverse features a flying eagle, likewise incuse, embodying strength and freedom while complementing the obverse with balanced elegance.

Struck in 90 percent gold, the 1929 issue carries substantial intrinsic value, and well-preserved examples reveal a soft, warm luster that accentuates the coin’s intricate recessed details. The innovative incuse style also helps protect the design from wear, allowing the artistry to endure for nearly a century.

As a later coin in the series, the 1929 Indian Head quarter eagle reflects the U.S. Mint’s commitment to modern design while honoring national symbolism. Its combination of historical significance, artistic refinement, and distinctive recessed relief makes it a highly prized piece among collectors of American gold.
