Additional Description: The small collection of 1929 and 1937 Mercury dimes alongside the 1948, 1952, and 1960-1964 Roosevelt dimes traces more than three decades of American artistry and history in silver coinage. The Mercury dimes, designed by Adolph A. Weinman, belong to one of the most admired series in U.S. numismatics. Their obverse features Liberty wearing a winged cap, a classical symbol of free thought, while the reverse displays a fasces bound with an olive branch, signifying both strength and peace. The 1929 and 1937 issues, struck in 90 percent silver, circulated during the years between the Roaring Twenties and the waning of the Great Depression, carrying with them a quiet dignity born of their time. The later Roosevelt dimes, introduced in 1946, reflect a shift toward modern simplicity and national commemoration. Designed by John R. Sinnock to honor President Franklin D. Roosevelt, they pair a restrained portrait with a reverse of torch, olive branch, and oak, symbols of liberty, peace, and endurance. The pieces from 1948 and 1952 were struck in the postwar era, while those from 1960 through 1964 represent the final years of silver coinage before the transition to a copper-nickel composition.
