Condition: Light cracks throughout the glaze and on some portions of the jar

Description: A large 16th or 17th century ceramic jar with a brown glaze and small looped handles around the top. The jar is decorated with dragons, cranes, flowers, flaming pearls, and other designs raised in high relief. The jar has a round body and baluster shape that is wider at the top with a wide lipped opening. There is a square maker seal with Chinese symbols on the shoulder of the jar.

Martaban’s were used for ship transport of export materials. A rope would be laced through the looped handles for ease of carriage.
