Additional Description: The 1964 U.S. Silver Quarter holds particular historical weight as the final circulating quarter struck in 90% silver. Featuring John Flanagan’s portrait of George Washington—unchanged since its 1932 debut—the coin was minted during a time of economic growth and rising silver prices that would soon reshape American coinage. In response to the increasing cost of silver, Congress passed the Coinage Act of 1965, which removed silver from quarters entirely. As a result, the 1964 issue became the last of its kind, marking the end of a monetary tradition that had endured for over 170 years.
