Additional Description: The U.S. Silver Half Dollars from 1936–1937 and 1939–1940 belong to the later years of the Walking Liberty series, one of the most admired designs in American coinage. Created by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman and first issued in 1916, the obverse features Liberty striding confidently toward the dawn, draped in the American flag, while the reverse displays a powerful eagle perched on a rocky ledge. Struck in 90% silver, these coins circulated during a time of recovery from the Great Depression and growing international tension on the eve of World War II.

By the mid- to late 1930s, production resumed more regularly after years of limited minting, with the 1936 and 1937 issues reflecting renewed economic activity. The 1939 and 1940 half dollars continued this trajectory, entering circulation as the United States edged closer to global conflict.
