About this lot
Artist: Ito Nisaburo
Title: Ninnaji Temple Gate In Snow
Origin: Japan
Dimension: Approx. 22 1/2x 17″
Condition: Top Matting Has Spots
Additional Information: Ito Nisaburo’s Ninnaji Temple Gate in Snow doesn’t whisper—it commands stillness. The scene is stripped to its essentials: a temple gate standing firm beneath the weight of winter, its form sharpened by stark contrasts and disciplined line. Snow blankets the world in silence, but the structure refuses to disappear into it; instead, it asserts its presence with quiet authority, a testament to endurance against time and season.
Through the precision of woodblock technique, Nisaburo turns restraint into power. Every contour is deliberate, every negative space carries weight. The muted palette heightens the impact, allowing the heaviness of the snow and the solidity of the gate to define the composition. There’s no excess—only control, balance, and a deep respect for form.
This isn’t just a winter scene. It’s a study in resilience. In Ninnaji Temple Gate in Snow, Ito Nisaburo captures the moment where nature presses in and structure stands its ground—unshaken, unyielding, and timeless.
