About this lot

Country of Origin: USA

Period: 20th Century

Artist: Peter Briant

Dimensions: Approx 30 x 24 in.

Condition: Framed and Protected

Additional Information: A beautiful, authentic original watercolor painting by the listed Southern fine artist and watercolorist, Peter P. Briant. This piece captures the historic Marblehead Lighthouse, situated on the tip of the Marblehead Peninsula along the shores of Lake Erie, Ohio—celebrated as the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the American side of the Great Lakes.

Briant, a New Orleans native who studied architecture at Tulane University, masterfully utilizes his drafting background to deliver incredibly crisp, structurally precise perspective lines on the lighthouse tower itself. Rather than a typical summer scene, this piece features a rare, atmospheric winter composition. The sharp contrast of the vibrant red lantern cap balances beautifully against the soft blues and grays of the heavy Midwestern snowbank floor and complex bare branches. This is a hand painted original displaying the continuous, smooth washes of color and fine brushwork characteristic of a true master watercolorist.

Excellent vintage condition. The original watercolor pigments are wonderfully preserved and remain completely vibrant with no fading, yellowing, or moisture damage. The frame is clean, structurally sound, and ready to hang immediately upon arrival.
