Additional Information: Antique Filipino Moro kris, also known as a kalis or sundang, associated with the Moro peoples of the southern Philippines and generally dating to the 19th or early 20th century. The sword features a hand-forged double-edged steel blade with a distinctive wavy profile through the lower section that transitions into a straighter section toward the pointed tip. Stylistic engraving is present along the blade.
The blade terminates in a broad, integrated metal guard or ganja with traditional decorative detailing and a small stylized hook-like element. The hardwood hilt has a slightly curved grip tightly wrapped in woven twine or fiber, providing a secure handhold. The carved pommel and overall construction reflect traditional Moro sword forms.
Moro kris were functional weapons as well as objects associated with personal status and regional craftsmanship. The form is distinct from the smaller Indonesian keris and was produced in various forms by Moro communities throughout Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago.
