Additional Description: A Whitman folder of early Wheat cents from 1909 to 1940, especially one that includes most of the key dates, represents a cornerstone collection for any student of American numismatics. Introduced in 1909 to mark the centennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, this was the first U.S. coin to feature a real person, and Victor David Brenner’s design, with Lincoln’s profile on the obverse and two wheat stalks framing the denomination on the reverse—quickly became a symbol of both innovation and national pride. Struck in bronze and minted at Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco, these cents trace the arc of American history through the Progressive Era, World War I, the Roaring Twenties, and the Great Depression.
