Additional Description: The 1904-S Liberty Head Double Eagle is a product of the San Francisco Mint during the final years of the long-running Liberty series, which had been in continuous production since 1850. Designed by James B. Longacre, the coin features the dignified profile of Liberty wearing a coronet, surrounded by thirteen stars, with a robust heraldic eagle on the reverse—emblems of national strength and continuity.

Struck from the abundant gold supplies of the Western United States, the 1904-S issue reflects San Francisco’s vital role in American coinage during the post-Gold Rush era. Many of these coins were used in international trade or held in bank reserves, though a fair number survived in high grades thanks to limited circulation.
