Additional Information: This lot features a signed photograph copy commemorating the crew of the B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay and their role in the historic August 6, 1945, Hiroshima mission. The photograph bears the signatures of Paul W. Tibbets, pilot and commander of the Enola Gay; Theodore "Dutch" Van Kirk, navigator; and Thomas W. Ferebee, bombardier who sighted and released the atomic bomb. Also included is a second photograph accompanied by a copy of orders issued by the War Department, Office of the Chief of Staff, Washington, D.C., dated July 25, 1945, outlining the mission objectives of the 509th Composite Group and bearing the signature of General Thomas T. Handy. The 509th Composite Group was the specially formed United States Army Air Forces unit tasked with carrying out the atomic bombing missions during World War II.
