About this lot

Manufacturer: Sun Records

Dimension: Approx. 7 x 7 in.

Condition: Cover has visible wear, such as discoloration, stains and writing on the cover. The record itself also shows signs of use, such as small scratches.

Additional Information: This lot features an Elvis Presley Sun Records 209 45 RPM single containing “Blue Moon of Kentucky” and “That’s All Right,” two of the landmark recordings that launched Elvis Presley’s career in 1954. Pressed on Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee, this 7-inch single is identifiable as an early “Memphis Pressing” by the three distinctive push marks found on the labels. These marks were created by the record stamper at Plastic Products, Inc., the Memphis pressing plant utilized by Sam Phillips during the earliest Sun Records releases. As demand for Elvis’s records grew, production expanded to pressing plants in California and Pennsylvania, making the Memphis pressings with push marks particularly significant to collectors. Released during the formative weeks of Presley’s rise to fame, Sun 209 remains one of the most iconic and historically important records in the history of rock and roll and American popular music.
