About this lot

Origin: North Girard, Pennsylvania

Period: 1877 Patent, Late 19th Century

Manufacturer: L. Hopkins

Material: Cast iron, wood, brass, and metal hardware.

Dimensions: Approx. 45 x 8 in. Folded

Condition: Minor surface wear and finish marks from age and use.

Additional Information: Wall-mounted Perfection clothes drier manufactured by the L. Hopkins Manufacturing Company of North Girard, Pennsylvania. The space-saving design features a cast-iron bracket mechanism, oval brass identification plate, and eight solid wooden arms that fan outward when opened and fold flat against the wall when closed. The design is based on a patent granted in 1887. Examples marked Miles Grove, Pennsylvania, are associated with the earlier manufacturing location, while North Girard was used after the town’s name change. This example is consistent with a late 19th Century production period.
