Medium: Oil Paint
Origin: United States
Dimension:Framed: Approx. 34 x 29 in.

Additional Information: This impressionist landscape oil painting is attributed to American artist John William “Will” Vawter (1871–1941), a leading member of the renowned Brown County Art Colony in Nashville, Indiana. Vawter was celebrated for his plein air landscapes, expressive brushwork, and masterful use of light, producing some of the finest Impressionist scenes of the rural Midwest during the early twentieth century. The painting is signed “Will Vawter” in the lower left corner.
The composition captures a peaceful countryside landscape rendered with Vawter’s characteristic loose, energetic brushwork and richly textured impasto. Thick applications of paint create depth throughout the trees, foliage, and rolling terrain, while dappled sunlight filters through the landscape in vibrant greens, warm earth tones, and touches of blue. Rather than emphasizing fine detail, the artist relies on bold, confident strokes that blend into a luminous scene when viewed from a distance, a hallmark of the Brown County Impressionist style.
