Additional Information: This lot features an original landscape oil painting by celebrated American Impressionist Louis Oscar Griffith (1875–1956), presented in a period-style molded giltwood frame. A charter member of both the Brown County Art Gallery Association and the Brown County Art Guild, Griffith studied under Frank Reaugh and at the Art Institute of Chicago, becoming known for his atmospheric landscapes and expressive Impressionist technique. His works have been exhibited nationally, including at the Smithsonian Institution.
The painting depicts a tranquil countryside scene characteristic of the American Midwest, with an open meadow stretching across the foreground toward gently rolling hills in the distance. A grouping of mature trees forms the focal point of the composition; their dense summer foliage painted in layered shades of green with warm highlights that suggest sunlight filtering through the canopy. Soft blue-green hills recede into the background beneath a hazy sky of pale blues and creams, creating a strong sense of depth and peaceful atmosphere. Griffith employs his signature loose, expressive brushwork and rich color harmonies to capture the effects of natural light, using visible strokes and subtle atmospheric perspective to evoke the quiet beauty of the rural landscape. The painting is signed L.O. Griffith in the lower left corner.
