About this lot

Origin: United States or Europe

Period: 19th Century

Style: Hand-Hammered

Dimensions: Approx. 11.5 x 6 x 11 in.

Condition: Patina on metal. Many dents, scratches and discoloration.

Additional Information: Antique nineteenth-century hand-hammered copper hearth tea kettle featuring a rounded planished copper body with a gracefully curved gooseneck pouring spout, domed lid with a cast brass finial, and a swinging bail handle with a central hand grip. The kettle is constructed using traditional hand-forged techniques with visible seamed construction and riveted handle brackets, characteristic of Georgian and Victorian period copperware. The planished, dimpled surface was created by repeated hammering, a process that both strengthened the copper and produced its distinctive textured appearance. The long gooseneck spout was designed for controlled, precision pouring, while the overhead bail handle allowed the kettle to be carried or suspended from a fireplace crane over an open hearth. Similar examples were produced throughout England, Europe, and America during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries for daily household use.
