Additional Description: Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1913, this Indian Head two-and-a-half dollar gold coin reflects Bela Lyon Pratt’s innovative vision in American coin design. Its incuse relief, with the design recessed into the surface rather than raised, was a striking departure from traditional minting techniques and remains a hallmark of early twentieth-century numismatic artistry. The obverse presents a dignified Native American male in feathered headdress, while the reverse features an eagle standing proudly upon arrows and an olive branch, symbols of vigilance and peace. Estimated to be of Fine, the coin shows moderate circulation wear yet retains clear outlines and much of its original charm. It remains an evocative example of Pratt’s bold aesthetic and the era’s spirit of artistic experimentation.
