Additional Description: Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1914, this Indian Head two-and-a-half dollar gold coin reflects the bold artistic vision of sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt. Pratt’s distinctive incuse design, with its recessed relief rather than raised surfaces, marked a significant departure from traditional minting techniques of the period and was regarded as a daring experiment in numismatic art. The obverse presents a finely modeled portrait of a Native American man wearing a feathered headdress, rendered with quiet strength and precision, while the reverse depicts an eagle poised in dignified stillness, a fitting emblem of national spirit. The coin survives in a state believed to be between Extremely Fine and About Uncirculated, its surfaces retaining much of the original detail and presence that distinguished this short-lived but influential series.
