Additional Description: The 1882 Morgan Silver Dollar from the New Orleans Mint carries the “O” mint mark beneath the wreath on the reverse, marking it as a product of this historic Southern branch mint. With a mintage of approximately 3.7 million, it is among the scarcer issues from New Orleans in the early 1880s.

The coin’s design, created by George T. Morgan, features Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap decorated with cotton and wheat on the obverse, while the reverse displays a powerful eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch, symbols of both strength and peace. The inscriptions encircle the composition, anchoring the coin firmly in its national identity.

Struck in 90% silver and 10% copper, the 1882-O Morgan, issued during a period when the U.S. Treasury was actively converting large quantities of silver into coinage under the Bland-Allison Act, reflecting broader economic and legislative efforts to support the silver mining industry.
