About this lot

Estimated Value: $450-750

Origin: Pre-Columbian, believed to be from the Nayarit culture of West Mexico, 200 B.C to 200 A.D.

Dimensions: 5.2.25×8 in. 

Condition: Its hand appears to have been cracked off at some point and it was holding a cup, and was glued back on to be restored. The cup also has some breakage and it has light dirt wear and divot wear.

Additional Information: A hand formed clay deep shaft grade male figure holing a cup. The figure has an enlarged head and appeared to wear intricately patterned and painted attire, as well as a headpiece. The figure has a nose ring and multiple earrings formed in its ears out of clay. The piece is painted with white, black, and red-orange pigment, that has lightly been worn. And the figure is hollow with an open hole in its head. 

The figure may represent a warrior or other important figure. It may have served ritualistic or burial purposes.
