Additional Information:  Ceremonial French Polynesian Marquesan hand carved Rosewood bowl.   An early trade piece as the French colonists appreciated the Marquesan and Polynesian art aesthetics. The inside of the bowl is smooth showing the natural carving marks. The bottom and outer sides are carved with designs, patterns, and stylized abstract figures in masks. The bowl is lacquered to prevent insect predation.
