Additional Description: The Silver Morgan Dollars of 1887, 1899–1900, and 1921 reflect the changing role of silver in American monetary policy. The 1887 issue came during peak production, with many coins struck more to satisfy legislation than actual demand, often ending up in long-term storage. By 1899 and 1900, the series neared its end, yet minting continued in high numbers, producing well-struck coins despite their limited circulation. In 1921, the Morgan Dollar was briefly revived after a long hiatus, but the design lost much of its original depth and detail due to hastily prepared dies.
