Additional Information: This exceptional Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver, chambered in .31 caliber, embodies the craftsmanship and innovation that made Colt one of the defining names of 19th-century American firearms. Originally designed for civilian use, the 1849 Colt Pocket Model became the first widely successful high-capacity multiple-shot revolver and quickly gained popularity during the California Gold Rush due to its compact size, reliability, and ability to fit easily into a pocket. It was favored by miners, travelers, lawmen, and civilians alike, and was often carried as a second gun because of its lightweight, concealable design. The Colt 1849 was also used by both Confederate and Union soldiers during the Civil War period, further cementing its place in American history. This example retains matching serial numbers, an important indicator of originality and authenticity, and comes housed in a period case that, while not an original Colt case, is authentic to the era.
