About this lot
Country of Origin: Mexico
Period: Circa 1970s
Artist: Federico
Title: Parrot with Brass Hanging Perche
Medium: Hand tooled, cut, layered and polychrome leather with brass hanging perche
Dimensions: Approx: 13 x 5 in.
Condition: Layered feather elements appear substantially complete and retain strong original coloration. Brass hanging perches show expected patina. Federico maker’s impression is visible but partially worn on the tail feather.
Additional Information: This large vintage Mexican decorative toucan sculpture by Federico is constructed from individually cut, tooled, and layered leather feathers over a formed body. The bird features a prominent elongated brown-orange bill, contrasting cream throat, and richly layered plumage in brown, green, yellow, black, and deep red. plumage. The featherwork incorporates individually patterned leather elements with incised diagonal and linear veining throughout, creating a textured and dimensional appearance. The toucan was made for suspended display and includes its original-style curved brass hanging perch, with molded feet designed to grip the horizontal bar. The tail feather retains a partially worn impressed Federico maker’s mark, consistent with documented Federico leather bird sculptures produced in Mexico during the 1970s.
