About this lot
Country of Origin: Japan
Manufacturer: GOLD IMARI
Medium: Porcelain
Dimensions: Approx. 6 x 6 x 6.5 in. (larger ginger jar) 7.5 in. (plate) 3 x 3 x 4.25 in. (smaller lidded jar)
Condition: No visible flaws.
Additional Information: The pieces are decorated in the traditional Imari palette of iron red, white, and extensive hand-applied gold. The principal decoration includes a central Japanese court carriage or Gosho-guruma surrounded by floral and foliate ornament. Geometric patterns, scrolling foliage, and paneled borders provide additional decoration across the bodies, shoulders, rims, and lids.
The larger ginger jar has a squat rounded form with a broad porcelain mouth and is presented without its original domed lid. It rests on a matching shallow saucer or undertray decorated with coordinated iron-red, floral, and gilt ornament.
The smaller lidded vessel is a straight-sided cylindrical form with a fitted lid. Its decoration repeats the larger vessel’s carriage, floral, geometric, and gilt motifs in a scaled-down composition.
The underside of all three pieces bears a gold-colored printed mark reading “GOLD IMARI Hand Painted.” A Hugile Japan Imports sticker is also present, identifying the importer associated with the pieces.
