Medium: Printed paper playing cards with Ukiyo-e artwork and gold gilt edges; molded plastic cases and printed cardboard outer boxes
Dimensions: Approx 4 x 3 in.
Condition: Both decks are complete with no observed creases and retain strong gold colored gilt edging. Light age and handling wear present. Original ACE plastic cases and cardboard outer boxes are included, with minor age and storage wear to the outer packaging.
Additional Information: Matching red and blue sets of vintage Japanese ACE Ukiyoe playing cards, each featuring printed reproductions of traditional Japanese ukiyo-e artwork. The card faces depict a variety of figures and scenes drawn from the Japanese woodblockmprint tradition, including bijin-ga, or images of fashionable and beautiful women. The card backs feature a female ukiyo-e portrait surrounded by a patterned border corresponding to the red or blue set.
Both decks feature gold gilt edges and are housed in their original molded plastic cases embossed “ACE PLAYING CARDS” and “浮世絵 UKIYOE,” accompanied by their original cardboard outer boxes marked for the respective red and blue versions.
A well preserved matching pair of vintage Japanese art playing card decks dating to the Mid Shōwa period.
