Additional Information: Pair of framed English monumental brass rubbings depicting Sir Roger Bellingham of Kendal, Westmorland, and his wife, Lady Elizabeth Bellingham, recreated from historic memorial brasses associated with the Tudor period. Produced using the traditional frottage technique, the images were created by placing heavy black paper over engraved brass plates and rubbing the raised surfaces with metallic gold wax, known as heelball, to produce highly detailed impressions. Sir Roger is portrayed bareheaded with long curly hair, a full beard, and dressed in finely detailed plate armor, reflecting his status as a prominent Tudor knight and benefactor of the Lady Chapel at Kendal Parish Church. Lady Elizabeth is shown wearing a traditional Tudor gown and stylized headdress, accompanied by a collared greyhound at the base of her skirts, a common symbol of loyalty and nobility in monumental brasses. Although the figures represent circa 1500 memorials, these impressions were taken from Victorian-era recreation brass plates, which became popular sources for decorative brass rubbings during the twentieth century. Each metallic gold rubbing is mounted on a black background beneath glass and housed in a matching black frame.
