Manufacturer: The figure with the wooden base has “Made in Japan” on the bottom an another figure has sticker in Japanese and another stick that reads “Hakata Doll Association Genuine Hakata Doll Made in Japan” on the bottom, and the others no not have any stamps or marks on the bottom. 

Origin: Fukuoka, Japan

Dimensions: The figure in the white robe measures 7×6.5×13.5 in. 

Condition: Light wear and scuffs on each. One has heavy scuffs and wear around the base and his feet. Two samurai’s are missing their swords and any other accessories, and one has a portion of his belt missing as well. Some have more scuffs and wear than others. 

Additional Information: An assortment of traditional samurai Japanese Hakata dolls made from fired and painted unglazed clay. These dolls are known for their soft colors and realistic expressions. 

Includes five various shaped and sized samurai Hakata dolls. Includes two painted dolls that still have their sticks included. One of these dolls also is holding a red bowl. One doll is large and is missing his sword, he is in a gold and white robe. One doll looks like a younger samurai in a detailed blue robe with designs and a helmet illustration, it also comes on a wooden base and two swords are able to be removed from it, the figure also holds a round basket shield.

Hakata dolls date back over 400 years, becoming a significant craft in the Fukuoka region. Often portrays figures from daily life, folklore, or theater. They reflect Japanese life and culture and are often given as gifts or souvenirs. Hakata dolls gained popularity in the United States during and after WWII as service members returning from Japan would bring them home as souvenirs.
