Additional Information: The Hakata doll wearing a green robe and kneeling has cracks underneath on the base. The Hakata doll wearing blue and grey appears to be missing a piece that sat in his waist. 

Hakata dolls are traditional Japanese clay dolls from the Hakata region of Fukuoka, Japan. The dolls are typically made of clay and hand painted. Hakata dolls date back over 400 years, becoming a significant craft in the Fukuoka region. Often portrays figures from daily life, folklore, or theater. They reflect Japanese life and culture and are often given as gifts or souvenirs. Hakata dolls gained popularity in the United States during and after WWII as service members returning from Japan would bring them home as souvenirs.
