Additional Description: The 1923 Peace Dollar continues the numismatic legacy begun in 1921, capturing the postwar ideals of harmony and renewal that defined the early 1920s. Struck in .900 fine silver at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints, the coin features Anthony de Francisci’s neoclassical portrait of Liberty on the obverse, crowned with radiant spikes echoing the Statue of Liberty, and a tranquil eagle on the reverse, resting atop a rock inscribed with the word “PEACE.” The 1923 issue benefited from improved striking techniques following the shift from high-relief designs, resulting in better detail and more consistent production. Issued during a time of relative economic optimism, these coins were both a medium of exchange and a symbolic expression of America’s hope for lasting peace.
