Additional Information: A beautiful, antique Victorian miniature doll & trunk set featuring an early production German Kewpie doll, handmade doll quilt and camel back doll trunk w/ lift out tray, dating from the late 19th century (circa 1880–1905).Doll Trunk: These smaller barrel top/ camel back trunks were elite toys of the Victorian era, designed to hold wardrobe pieces for high end porcelain and bisque dolls. This piece is incredibly complete, retaining its original interior lift out wooden storage tray (till), a component that is missing from roughly 80% of surviving trunks from this time.
The Doll Trunk is in honest, unrestored antique condition with a beautiful historic patina; the wood slats are solid, and the metal hardware shows authentic age related oxidation; the original leather side handles are present but show heavy wear consistent with a 120+ year old piece; the interior paper lining shows typical splitting along the wooden panel seams but remains remarkably clean and free of heavy water staining or mold.
Antique Bisque German Kewpie Doll: An authentic 5 inch German bisque Kewpie doll. This charming early example retains both of its original paper labels: the heart-shaped "Kewpie Germany" label on the front and the "Design Patented" label on the back. The doll is made of unglazed bisque with beautifully preserved hand painted features, blue wings, and movable string jointed arms. The arms remain securely attached and move freely as intended.
No cracks, chips, or repairs were detected; the original paint and facial details are well preserved. Both original paper labels remain intact. Light surface grime and age related wear are present, all consistent with an antique bisque. No clothing or accessories are included.
This is a wonderful collector's piece with excellent overall preservation. The combination of intact bisque, original labels, and jointed arms makes it a desirable example of an early German made Kewpie. It displays beautifully as is or would make an outstanding addition to any antique doll or Kewpie collection.
Finally, a handmade custom doll quilt dating to the same time period. It has endured and is intact with no rips or tears to the fabric. There is some discoloration and staining consistent with use, age and storage. The quilt overall is wonderfully preserved and makes a great addition to this Victorian era doll set.
