About this lot

Country of Origin: Mexico

Period: Circa 1960s–1970s

Artist: Attributed to John William Guerin (American, 1920–2006), each signed “Guerin”; produced by Titanico, Progreso, Yucatán, Mexico

Titles: Tulum and Uxmal, Yucatan, from the Road to Ruins Series

Medium: Black and white limited edition prints on paper after detailed pen and ink style compositions; exact printing process unverified. Each hand signed, titled, and individually numbered.

Dimensions: Approx. 7 1/2 × 5 1/2 in.

Condition: Prints appear clean with strong black impressions and no obvious tears or major staining visible through the glazing. Minor age related toning and spotting to the surrounding presentation materials and light surface wear to the matching wood frames. Original backing and easel hardware remain present. One retains its original Titanico Road to Ruins Series publisher label.

Additional Information:
Matched pair of vintage Mexican limited edition architectural prints depicting major Maya archaeological sites. Tulum is numbered 515/1000 and depicts the ruins of the fortified Maya coastal settlement at Tulum. Uxmal, Yucatan is numbered 672/1000 and prominently depicts the monumental Pyramid of the Magician at Uxmal.

Both works are signed “Guerin” at lower right and are strongly attributed to American artist John William Guerin, whose documented career included Mexican subjects, ink drawings, and the 1964 exhibition Drawings of Mexico by John Guerin. The surviving original reverse label identifies these as part of the Road to Ruins Series, signed and numbered by the artist and produced by Titanico, Apdo. 34, Progreso, Yucatán.

An independently documented Chac-Mool example from the same numbered series confirms that Titanico issued multiple Maya archaeological subjects in editions of 1,000. Offered together as a matching framed pair.
