Additional Information: Group of three framed 20th century works representing Israeli, American folk art and Italian/Pompeian subjects.
The first is a signed J. Moyal Jerusalem composition depicting figures before the Western Wall area with the Dome of the Rock rising above. The image is executed in ink and transparent watercolor washes on pronounced textured artist paper. Loupe examination shows no regular mechanical print-dot pattern, supporting identification as an original hand-executed work.
The second is a vintage reproduction of Queena Stovall’s Making Sorghum Molasses, based on her October 1952 oil painting depicting traditional rural Virginia sorghum production. The scene shows a mule powering the cane mill while workers crush stalks, collect juice and cook it down into molasses. Close magnification reveals a regular photomechanical screen throughout the image, confirming this example as a reproduction rather than the original painting. Stovall was a noted Virginia folk painter known for detailed scenes of rural life in Amherst County and central Virginia.
The third is an original work by Italian artist Giovanni Gallo, signed and dated 1983 and inscribed Pompei, il Vittorioso. Executed in gouache and watercolor on dark paper, the composition depicts classical figures and putti derived from ancient Pompeian decorative imagery. Gallo is documented for a series of small Pompeii-inspired gouache and watercolor works.
