Additional Information: Complete seven volume 1910 Century Library Edition of The Works of George Eliot, published in New York by The Century Co. The uniformly bound set includes the major novels of one of the most important writers of the Victorian era.
Of particular historical interest, “George Eliot” was the nom de plume of Mary Ann Evans (1819–1880), the English novelist, poet, journalist, and translator who adopted a male literary name during the 19th century. Her works are celebrated for their psychological depth, social observation, and detailed portrayals of provincial Victorian life.
The seven-volume set comprises:
-
Adam Bede
-
The Mill on the Floss
-
Romola, Volumes I & II
-
Silas Marner — bound with Romola II
-
Middlemarch, Volumes I & II
-
Felix Holt, the Radical
All seven volumes retain their matching green cloth bindings with black spine panels and gilt lettering, presenting as a handsome and cohesive antique literary library set.
This is a 1910 collected edition rather than a first edition of the individual novels, but its completeness, uniform bindings, age, and association with one of the defining authors of Victorian literature give it both literary and decorative appeal.
