Additional Description: The 1883 Morgan Silver Dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint is a solid mid-series issue, distinguished by its clean design, consistent availability, and historical placement within the broader arc of U.S. silver coinage. As with all Philadelphia issues of the era, this coin bears no mint mark.

The 1883 Morgan Dollar is widely available in both circulated and uncirculated condition. Liberty’s hair and the eagle’s breast feathers, common weak points in the series, are often reasonably well-executed on this issue.

The coin was designed by George T. Morgan, whose iconic imagery, Liberty in profile wearing a Phrygian cap on the obverse, and a poised eagle with wings spread on the reverse, came to define American silver dollars of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Produced under the continued requirements of the Bland-Allison Act, the 1883 Morgan is part of a period marked more by political silver subsidies than genuine monetary demand. As a result, many coins were stored in vaults for decades, emerging later in the 20th century.
