Dimensions: 8×7.5x17in

Condition: A slight chip on the shoulder

Additional Information: A female figure in a seated position with her hands below her breast. She wears a beaded belt and bracelet, as well as earrings. She is shown with face paint on her cheeks. The rest of the female is in the nude even showing emphasis of her womanhood.  The tradition is to show the figures with with carnal deformation and carved hair, which represent warriors or protectors of the dead and placed into shaft tombs.

May represent a captive or prisoner. Well-proportioned and balanced body with striated hair. Shows mineral deposits leached into the clay which indicate burial in the earth. Also, shows some low-fire burnishing with a glossy exterior patina.   Provenance: Reportedly from Howard Rose/Arte Primitivo, NY.
