About this lot

Origin: Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Middle Cauca/Quimbaya culture ca. 7th- 15th century

Dimensions: 5x4x7.5 in. 

Condition: Cracking and wear throughout its body, and indentations from wear along the figures face. It also appears to have had restoration and repairs to its had and limbs, having the head, legs, and one of its arms reglued or reformed with clay back onto its body.

Additional Information: A clay handmade Pre-Columbian Quimbaya Slab Seated figure displaying a serene look with both arms raised, its hands are slightly bumpy to show abstracted fingers The figure has a flatted face and body and appears to be nude. It has a hole in its nose and along its forehead and has a slit line for its mouth and eyes. Its body appears to be hollow inside.

These sort of figures were included with ceramic vessels and metal ornaments as offerings in burials in shaft and chamber tombs and may have been seen as guardians for the deceased.
