Description: Lacquered wood and ‘raden’ mother-of-pearl inlaid ‘abumi’ stirrups with tassels. Japanese ‘abumi’ stirrups were introduced to Japan from Kohun period (250-538 AD). Early stirrup styles are in the half-tongued style and remained in use until the late 19th century. ‘Abumi’ stirrups were a necessary part of the Japanese saddle for mounted combat.
