Condition: Dragon Tsuba shoes patina and rust with some wear marks but no visible loss or scratches. Smooth Tsuba no visible rust or patina but there are some visible scratches and pits. Textured Design Tsuba shows sign of wear and some rust. Vine Tsuba gold inlaid shows sign of ware and missing some of its outline, shows wear around the metal collar. Cut Out Design Tsuba shows wear around metal collar, a scratch on the rim, rust, and has light missing pits around the face. Brass Colored Tsuba has some tarnish and wear around the metal collar as well as around the rim.

Description: The Tsuba’s, also knows as a sword guard or hand guard, are from the Edo Period (1603-1868). The purpose of the tusba is to prevent hands from sliding onto the sword. During the Edo Period, the designs on tsuba’s became more ornamental. Artisans created intricate designs with themes inspired by nature, religion, and mythology.
