Condition: There is visible cracks and chips in the paint on the footbed with several pits in the metal where the wood and metal meet. Both buckles are in tact and both prongs move. The lacquered on the outside is peeling and chipping and the metal is rusting. On the bottom of both stirrups, there is a herringbone pattern that is slightly worn.
Description: Japanese abumi stirrups were introduced to Japan from Kohun period (250-538 AD). Early stirrup styles are in the half-tongued style and remained in use until the late 19th century. Abumi stirrups were a necessary part of the Japanese saddle for mounted combat. Some stirrups were decorated with family crests and other intricate designs.
