Additional Description: The 1902 Liberty Head Eagle, a $10 gold coin struck at the dawn of a new century, belongs to one of the most enduring series in U.S. coinage history. Designed by Christian Gobrecht and first issued in 1838, the Liberty Eagle maintained a consistent form for nearly seven decades, a testament to both its aesthetic appeal and the stability it projected during a period of national growth and transformation.

By 1902, the coin’s design had become deeply familiar. On the obverse, Liberty appears in profile, crowned with a simple coronet inscribed LIBERTY, her hair pulled back in classical fashion. The reverse features a heraldic eagle beneath thirteen stars, gripping arrows and an olive branch, the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST appearing on a scroll above, an addition made in 1866 following the Civil War. The coin was struck at multiple mints that year, with Philadelphia producing the majority, alongside smaller numbers from San Francisco and New Orleans, each bearing its own mint mark.
