Additional Description: The 1967 U.S. Half Dollar belongs to a short-lived and historically significant chapter in American coinage. Struck in the wake of rising silver prices and growing demand for coinage, it is one of only three dates, 1965, 1966, and 1967, produced in a special 40% silver clad composition, a transitional alloy that replaced the traditional 90% silver used through 1964. The outer layers contain silver bonded to a pure copper core, preserving some intrinsic value while reducing the cost to the U.S. Mint.

The coin retains the Kennedy design introduced in 1964, featuring a youthful, idealized profile of President John F. Kennedy on the obverse and the Presidential Seal on the reverse. Though the design remained unchanged, the context did not. The 1967 issue was not struck with a mintmark, as part of a broader effort by the Treasury to discourage coin hoarding. It was also produced during a period when proof and mint sets were suspended; instead, collectors could purchase “Special Mint Sets,” which included more carefully struck examples but lacked the full polish of earlier proofs
