Additional Description: The 1853 Arrows Dime marks a pivotal moment in U.S. coinage history, reflecting the nation’s response to shifting silver values during the early 1850s. As the price of silver rose, Congress authorized a reduction in the weight of several silver denominations, including the dime. To indicate this change, small arrows were added on either side of the date, a subtle but crucial visual cue to distinguish the new standard from earlier issues. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1853 Arrows Dime retains the familiar Seated Liberty design by Christian Gobrecht, with Liberty seated on a rock holding a shield and staff, surrounded by thirteen stars.  The 1853 issue stands as both a product of practical monetary reform and a testament to the evolving aesthetics and technical precision of mid-19th-century American coinage.
