Additional Description:  The 1923 Silver Peace Dollar represents a continued effort to commemorate the end of World War I and the nation’s aspiration for lasting peace. Struck in .900 fine silver at both the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints, the 1923 issue features Anthony de Francisci’s iconic design: Liberty crowned with rays on the obverse, inspired by classical sculpture, and an eagle at rest on the reverse, perched atop a rock inscribed “PEACE.” As the third year of the series, the 1923 Peace Dollar benefited from refinements in striking quality compared to its 1921 high-relief predecessor. Issued during a time of economic optimism in the Roaring Twenties, these coins circulated widely, yet many were also stored in Treasury vaults and survive in relatively high grades. Today, the 1923 Peace Dollar remains a tangible reflection of a nation emerging from war and asserting its ideals through the artistry of its coinage.
